Carol’s Testimony

“Only the Lord Jesus Christ will satisfy us.” It took me a long time to understand this sentence. I used to hold a negative concept toward Christianity because I thought Christians are people who tried to preach doctrines and religious beliefs to make me believe “their religion”. I thought people have religion because they wanted god to fulfill the selfish wishes, so I didn’t care to ask God to give me anything.

When I first entered the University of Washington, my dream was to have an independent life, to get into the Business school and to study accounting every day. I thought I would be satisfied when I have them all. However when I accomplished my dreams, I realized I was very wrong. Day after day, what I desired became the pain in my life. I started to wonder if the things I like cannot make me happy, what then can make me happy? Luckily, I met Christian Students Association and through their activities, such as the Bible studies, evening fellowships, one-on-one Bible reading, I found the joys to my life.

What attracted me about this club is not just the happy atmosphere, but how the members take time to enjoy the pure word from the Bible. I started to long for more time spent with the club members, to sing hymns, to read the Bible and to participate in fun activities together.  Although my life became very busy with activities that my friends thought as “boring and a waste of time,” I have never felt so relieved and delightful.

When I first joined the club, I did not know that reading the Bible and singing songs is a way for God to infuse His life into us. Even while I did not know Him as my personal Savior, the Lord Jesus was already giving me blessings through the time I spent with the members in the club. As John 6:63 says, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words which I have spoken to you are spirit and are life”.

In 2 Timothy 2:22, the Apostle Paul charges Timothy to “…flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” I am blessed to learn little by little the unsearchable riches of the Lord with all students who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. I have true companions now and have received much cherishing from the brothers and sisters in the club. Moreover, I find true rest here because I can come to the Lord with all the dear believers. The Lord Jesus has promised in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me all who toil and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” He also proclaimed, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.” His Word shall not fail us!

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father …, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit into the inner man that Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be full of strength to apprehend with all the saints what the breadth and length and height and depth are, and to know the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, that you may be filled unto all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16-19). Praise the Lord! With Christian Student Association at UW, we can be strengthened into our inner man through the Spirit, be rooted and grounded in love, be full of strength to apprehend with all the believers the dimensions and knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, and be filled unto all the fullness of God! Hallelujah!
